What is the difference between Holistic Coaching and coaching in general?

Holistic Coaching in comparison to coaching incorporates additionally and notably the mental (or emotional) development of each individual. Transformation occurs on a level of body-mind-soul. Spirituality is deliberately integrated in the process.

What is the difference between Holistic Coaching and training and/or consulting?

The fundamental difference lies in the fact that training and/or consulting introduces external knowledge whereas Holistic Coaching enables dormant knowledge (in the individual person or entire company) to surface and supports self-governed growth.
A consultant brings in expert knowledge / expertise in to the company.

Training serves in building and expanding a specific behavior (or knowledge) – the participant learns how to deal with a specific situation in an "ideal” way or pattern.
The trainee’s needs are important yet the focus lies mainly on the specific behavior or training contents and less on the individual himself/herself. Typical examples for such trainings are sales training, presentation training, motivation training, rhetoric training, memory training and many more. In this case the trainer is expert and provides expert knowledge thus inducing a relationship gap between know how-provider and know how-recipient. Repetitive practice is characteristic for training – this done in autodidactic manner or conducted and supervised by a trainer providing corrective feedback.

What is the difference between a coaching seminar and a conventional seminar?

During a sabeconsult® Coaching seminar the self-reflection process is initiated for the individual participant as well as for the entire group. The coach is – similar to an individual coaching session – catalyst and not know how-provider like in conventional seminars. Thus the individual's blind spots can surface allowing further development of their personal competence corresponding to their experiences, talents and strengths. Blockades - being deeply rooted into one’s personality – hindering a particular behavior (i.e. to speak in front of an audience, approach customers or make deals) are resolved. The newly flourishing behavioral pattern arising from within becomes manifested by repetitive action. The individual’s "gold” starts to shine and as consequence automatically leads to a change in behavior.

Which typical questions surface during an individual coaching session?

The majority of our coaching clients being CEOs or executive board members have approached us with the following questions in the initial coaching session:

  • How do I manage my employees to obtain their maximum input for the company?
  • Conflicts are ongoing in our team! We have tried everything but they still linger.
  • HELP: I am CEO and am in dire need of a sparring partner for my issues and pool of ideas – or: My personal relationship is being burdened by too many business matters – or: Everybody expects something from me – but where is my share?’
  • How am I to cope with working my way up?

I wish to reorient myself (in business or private life).

Will employees really open up in a coaching seminar while their superior is present?

Yes, definitely. Two reasons explain why. Fact is that the CEO of a company is always partaking in the process al well – thus being a pillar of positive mindset and opening up the space for employees to speak freely and without inhibitions.

Furthermore the coaching seminar is held at a time where all executives have commenced with their individual coaching process. Confidence towards the coach and the process as such is already present. Being a role model in general leads to the fact that all others employees orientate themselves accordingly.

Intercultural: Is it important for a sabeconsult Holistic Coach to have knowledge of intercultural conditioning?

Yes, definitely. Without such knowledge coaching a person of different culture will always be based upon the coaches own cultural background. Understanding and touching base with the client becomes impossible. The coach projects a "German filter” toward all that is said. For instance sales: When encouraging the self-confidence of a German client I focus on his/her accomplishments and people of the past. From a cultural perspective – which defines all thoughts and emotions – an American is triggered by the present, the future and success. Without this vital differentiation and cultural conditioning prior to the coaching session the client will feel misunderstood and will not achieve the actual output possible.

How can it be ensured that the coachee assumes 100% responsibility for himself/herself and his/her well being during the coaching process and no mental-health problems exist?

When compiling the medical history during the initial coaching session the coachee is made aware that he/she is solely responsible for his/her well being.

Ongoing health problems and current or previous therapy are discussed when compiling the medical history. The coach may consult the CEO and/or the HR manager should any doubts concerning integrity arise.

Can a person with previous or current psychotherapy participate in a corporate coaching seminar?

In general sabeconsult® Coaching is geared for healthy people as it initiates a profound personality process. So the answer would be NO. Only in rare instances may participation be granted – and this only after an intensive conversation between candidate and coach. Exception to policy is possible only if the date of therapy lies way in the past and the subject of therapy does not collide with the coaching process. In case of ongoing therapy the coach would discuss this matter directly with the candidat's therapist.
